Excel in a minute: 3 tips to help you become more proficient

1. Remove duplicate values in Excel

This happen when a colleague sends you a data file that has duplicate data that you want to delete. Short files can be manually deleted line by line, but files with thousands of lines cannot be deleted like that, for example, duplicate employee ID. So, to make it easier and faster, please follow these steps below:

Step 1: Access Microsoft Excel, open the file that you want to make change on. Ctrl + A, to highlight all datas. Remember, there is no other content outside the table.

Step 2: On the Toolbar, select Data, then select Remove Duplicates.

The data table has cell borders, each time you add a row of data you have to reformat the table and add cell borders. Below are tips to help you automatically draw cell borders when adding new rows of data.

Step 1: Access Microsoft Excel, open the file that you want to make change on. Highlight the data table, scroll down to the lines below as shown in the image below.

Step 2: Select Conditional Formating -> New rule… -> Use a formula to determine which cells to format.

Step 3: Creat a conditional statement in the text box.

Select the first row of the data table. Next, press F4 twice to remove the second $ sign.

3. Fixed column and row titles in Excel.

Fixed title helps you see the title even when you scroll the page, the title will always be at the top, you can always see what the column name and row name are.

Step 1: Access Microsoft Excel, open the file that you want to make change on. Blacken the columns and rows that need to be fixed.

Step 2: Place the mouse cursor at the diagonal corner

Step 3: Select View -> Freeze Panes -> Unfreeze Panes
